We went to the tie and dye studio today where Leanne learned all the secrets to traditional Rajasthani tie and dye. It’s such a labour intensive process and everyone is extremely skilled at their job within the process. The old ladies who do the tying must have hands of steel in order to tie the cloth tightly enough so that no die will get into the tied portions. The dyers sit for hours at the dye pots working the dye into the cloth by hand. We also both thought it was cool that the whole shop has a road-ward slope so that any time dye or water spills or is poured out onto the floor, it runs down to the end of the shop and out into the gutter in the street outside.
